So first: for the last few months I’ve been looking for something new to do with my hair…I’ve in a kind of been in a hair “rut.” After biting the big one and cutting off all my hair in seventh grade—and I do mean ALL my hair—I’ve kept my hair relatively conservative. Recently I seriously considered bobbing it, ala Alexa Chung or Abbey Lee Kershaw. Remembering my Mia Farrow pixie-cut days, however, I chickened out, because, as a college freshman now, the last thing I want is an androgynous haircut. So I’d decided I’m not going to cut it.
Since middle school, though, the most risqué thing I’ve done with my hair is to dye it an ashy brown last winter. At the time, the lightening I’d done over the summer with Sun-In was growing out and I had some heinous roots; so I chose the darkest shade in my hair and dyed it all semi-permanently. Recently I’d been experiencing the same awkward growing out of highlights and each day was faced with a more and more pressing issue: what to do with this mess??
I’ll admit, I enjoy being blonde. So I was rather reticent to relinquish my face-framing golden strands… And since I’d decided I’m not going to go under the scissors, I needed to find something else to spice up my look.
Okay quick digression (I SWEAR this is relevant, just trust me): My bud in the quad next door, Ashley, is taking a class this semester called Pseudoscience. In one lecture, her professor attempted to convince the class that Twizzlers make your hair grow at an abnormally fast rate. Well… You guys might not know this about me, but I am a Twizzler-eating FIEND—just see the “About Me” box or ask my roommates. SO BASICALLY, because I eat so many Twizzlers, my hair grows really fast. Really really fast. It’s true.
So basically time was running out for me to make a decision. And what happens when you put me under pressure and force me to make a decision? I get impulsive. And I pick the first thing that even slightly appeals to me. Which is why, about two weeks ago, I decided to bleach my hair….!
I had wanted it to be really light, almost platinum-like, but it ended up more strawberry blonde, which I guess isn’t really all that surprising when you consider the fact that I did it myself with the help of the wonderful Julia… Imagine me sitting on the floor of our dorm’s bathroom with Jules combing white gook through my hair with her fingers.,. yeah. I’ll probably lighten it again in a week or two.
…And that is the story of why I now resemble Goldilocks. Hip, hip, hooray for yellow hair.

On another note, there is awesome ribbon-mesh patterning on this dress. It was on sale for something like $20 at Ann Taylor Loft, which I always thought was “business-casual Mom” clothes, but which actually has some pretty cool stuffs these days—surprise, surprise.
Lastly, we went to Goodwill again yesterday! I’d been looking forward to the outing all week and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I got lots of goodies I’ll be sure to share with you soon.
