Uncle Sam wants YOU

Gone With the Wind/Pocahontas/Pride and Prejudice, anyone?

It's the Fourth of July, one of my absolute favorite days of the year, and I decided to break out one of my absolute favorite garments (that sadly I don't wear nearly often enough) to match. (I'm saving my all-out patriotism for tomorrow morning's parade, but I retained a little bit of Americana with the blue and red in this dress.) I bought this feather-print maxi dress at Madewell two years ago after seeing it in green and purple in an editorial in Marie Claire (I think? It was either that or Self?--my step-mother's magazines, not mine.). When I was buying it the super cheery saleslady (why are they all so goshdarn upbeat?!) told me that it would make me look taller. She was about five nothing, so I took her word for it. (I actually think she might have been right?) Something about the empire waist of a maxi dress just seems to make your lower half go on forever. Which is good because personally, I think maxi dresses look ridiculous with heels--it just looks wrong--so I opted for the wrap-up gladiators instead and finished it off with some vintage-acquired jewelry.

Isn't the necklace such a hoot? I love it. I also love the expression "such a hoot." It reminds me of funny old people. (Sadly necklace-man is currently an amputee. I'm putting a reward of an undisclosed amount out for a missing gold leg if you happen to find one.)

Well I'm off to the fireworks now so that's all the jabber I have for now... I hope you all enjoy your Independence Day weekend! Remember to stay stylish. Mwah.

  1. 1) I love the new layout for your blog. The colors are perfect (I'm glad you ditched the maroon) and it looks great.

    2) The dress does make you look taller!
