How to Wear Colors

I was surfing the webernet blogosphere today and came across Tavi's recent posts on resort wear and oh my giddy god's trousers THE COLORS. So then I was thinking up this post and it hit me this this feels like it should be a Seventeen Magazine article complete with smiling girls in preplanned outfits and advice like "White jeans make a bright top pop!" But this isn't Seventeen Magazine, and I'm not going to advise you to wear only one color at a time or even to stick to a palette of complementary colors. Not a common color combination? So what. Go for it. Your pants clash with your top? No worries. Wear it anyways. Your accessories don't match any of colors you're wearing? No big D. Pile 'em on.

These are some of my favorite recent adventures in Rainbow Brite land:

1. Put Yo Crazy Pants On

Who says jeans have to be blue? Madewell (my favorite store ever, as you may remember) has a practically infinite amount of alternatives to blue blue jeans. They have garment dyed jeans and shorts, but what I LOVE most of all are their garment dyed zip crops that they bring out every spring. I have them in coral (seen here), minty green and white tie-dye, and celery green. So put away your blue jeans and Candy-Land it up.

2. SUNNY-D. The Power of the Sun.

Feelilng lethargic? Really really don't want to get out of bed, but goshdarnit you freaking have to?! Here's what I do: pull out all the brightest, most vibrant clothes you have, and wear them all together. You won't be able to help it--you'll feel better practically automatically. (And if you don't, no one will be able to look at you without their eyes melting anyways. So it's win-win.)

3. Like a Damn Fool

So I'm pretty sure red and purple are like THE biggest clashing no-no's. And green and purple?! I know you've seen this outfit before, but I added it here just to prove that you CAN wear clashing colors; you just have to balance them. I balanced my red belt and purple skirt with two shades of green that don't exactly add up either. But the best advice for wearing crazy colors: even if it does look stupid... just work it, dahling. You'll look smashing AND ballsy.
